Luis Soler

Head Age Group Coach & Facility Director

BORN: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania


CAREER HIGHLIGHTS: Selected as Florida Gold Coast All-Star Coach in 2001, 2002, and 2003, where he coached multiple All-Star champions. Served on the coaching staff for the Southeastern Zone Championships from 2005 to 2007, developing several champions. Coached at Pembroke Pines Charter (2000–2009), producing multiple state finalists, including state champion Marc Rojas in 2009. Introduced water polo at the school, leading the boys team to four district titles (2006–2010) and the girls team to four district titles (2007–2010). Named Sun-Sentinel Coach of the Year in Broward County for girls water polo in 2009 and boys water polo in 2010. Has been a lifeguard and CPR-certified since 1992 and holds ASCA Level 2 certification.

Isidro Planell

Palmetto Bay Site Head Coach

BORN: Miami, Florida


CAREER HIGHLIGHTS: Serves as the Program Director of AquaKids Swim School and Head Site Coach of the AquaKids Sharks site of South Florida Aquatic Club, a role he began in 2024. His coaching journey with AquaKids Sharks began in 2014, and over the years he has worked with athletes at every level of the program. In addition to his work with AquaKids, he served as a volunteer assistant coach for the NCAA Division I FIU Women’s Swimming and Diving team for two seasons from 2018 to 2020.

His career highlights include being part of FIU’s Conference USA Championship teams in 2019 and 2020, serving as a coach at Longhorn Swim Camp at the University of Texas, and being selected as an All-Star Coach for Florida Gold Coast from 2020 to 2023. Throughout his coaching career, he has also helped develop several high school state finalists.

Jay Baxter

Lead Age Group Coach

BORN: Johannesburg, South Africa


CAREER HIGHLIGHTS: Was a South African competitive swimmer known for his strength in individual medley and backstroke events. Born in Johannesburg, he has built a strong record across international, collegiate, and club-level competition. He earned international recognition with a gold medal in the 200m Individual Medley at the African Swimming Championships, establishing himself as a top performer on the continental stage. He continued his career at Nova Southeastern University, where he competed in NCAA Division II and earned First Team All–Sunshine State Conference honors. During this time, he delivered consistent results in IM, backstroke, and relay events, achieved podium finishes at the SSC Championships, and contributed to relay team wins. At the club level, he competes with South Florida Aquatic Club and remains active in the Florida Gold Coast region, continuing to post strong results in backstroke and IM events. In addition to his athletic career, he contributes as a coach, working with swimmers across different age groups and skill levels, focusing on stroke technique, race strategy, and athlete development while supporting training sessions and fostering a positive team environment.

Hailey Byrne
